Lessons

Basic Horsemanship Sessions are offered at Legacy Dressage by one of our instructors on a school horse. Students will learn from the ground up, safely haltering a horse to grooming, tacking, and riding. Each lesson will always emphasize safe handling of the horse and rider, building confidence from the beginning. While riding, instruction is emphasized on developing an independent “seat” for the rider, which often means time spent on the lunge line where the student can focus on themselves and not worry about steering. Our goal is to produce riders that have confidence both on the ground or while on a horse, regardless of their background, age, discipline or riding goals. We feel very strongly at Legacy Dressage that students should be given a solid foundation in basic horsemanship, not only to produce quality riders, but a baseline of knowledge that goes beyond riding, including safety, theory behind riding, vet care, nutrition, and equipment care. Students can look forward to participating in visits with the farrier, saddle fitter, veterinarian, and special events held at the barn. We wholeheartedly believe learning how to ride a horse goes way beyond sitting in the saddle! Lessons are an hour, but that includes teaching the student proper grooming and tacking practices in the beginning, riding, and proper horse care at the end of the session as well. As students become more independent and are able to catch, groom and tack up on their own, they will be allowed to arrive early and prepare the horse on their own time, allowing more time for riding instruction. Time in the saddle will not typically exceed 45 minutes. Sessions are offered year-round in our heated indoor arena.

Introductory session: For the first time student. Meet the instructors as well as the lesson horses, go over the program and how a session is structured, including hands-on time with the horse! Board

Legacy Dressage offers board for Training, Sales, and Student’s horses. Each horse is required to be in a Training or Lesson program with a trainer at Legacy Dressage. We strive to have the highest quality care, always putting the wellbeing of each horse at the top of our day. Our feeding program is based on a grain-free, whole food diet. We have found our horses to thrive without grain fillers and additives, have beautiful coats naturally, less vet calls, more focus during work and just an overall better state of mind with this program. We proudly feed supplements from BioStar US and believe they are THE best! Read more about BioStar here!
